Device Compatibility
Check Your Device Compatibility
Not sure if your device supports eSIM? Use our compatibility checker below:
Note: All iPhone models since iPhone XS (released in 2018) and iPhone XR support eSIM technology. This includes iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16 series. All new iPhones released after September 2018 are compatible with eSIM.
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM that allows you to activate a cellular plan from your carrier without having to use a physical SIM card. It's built into your device and can be activated by scanning a QR code or entering an activation code.
Benefits of eSIM include:
- No physical SIM card needed
- Easy to switch between carriers or plans
- You can have multiple phone numbers on one device
- Convenient for international travel
Most recent smartphone models support eSIM technology. You can use our compatibility checker above to see if your specific device is compatible.
Generally, these devices support eSIM:
- iPhone XS, XR, and newer (all iPhones since 2018)
- Google Pixel 3 and newer
- Samsung Galaxy S20, Note 20, and newer models
- Many recent models from Motorola, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and other manufacturers
You can also check your phone's settings. On iPhone, go to Settings > Cellular/Mobile. If you see "Add Cellular Plan" or "Add eSIM," your device supports eSIM.
Yes, most devices that support eSIM allow you to use both an eSIM and a physical SIM simultaneously. This is called Dual SIM functionality, which gives you two phone numbers on one device.
This is particularly useful for:
- Separating personal and business lines
- Using a local data plan while traveling while keeping your home number
- Having plans from two different carriers for better coverage
Note that some newer iPhone models (iPhone 14 models sold in the US and iPhone 15/16 models) are eSIM-only and do not have a physical SIM slot.

Simply select "Pay with Crypto" at checkout to use cryptocurrency.
Yes, significantly. Here's the privacy comparison:
- Card payments (Stripe): Your card company sees the transaction, but PikaSim never stores your card details. Stripe handles all card data securely.
- Crypto payments (BTCPay): No bank or payment processor involved. Bitcoin, Monero, USDT, or 50+ altcoins via Trocador go directly to our self-hosted BTCPay Server. Maximum anonymity.
For maximum privacy: Use crypto (especially Lightning or Monero). No email or personal info is ever collected. Your eSIM details appear instantly on the purchase page.
Payment confirmation speed depends on which Bitcoin method you use:
- Lightning Network: Instant (1-2 seconds) - recommended for speed
- Bitcoin on-chain: Typically 10-30 minutes for first confirmation
Once your Bitcoin payment is confirmed, your eSIM is delivered instantly - the same as card payments. Lightning Network is the fastest option for immediate delivery.
BTCPay Server is an open-source, self-hosted cryptocurrency payment processor. Unlike services like BitPay or Coinbase Commerce, BTCPay Server:
- Is self-hosted: We run our own BTCPay Server - no third-party company involved
- Has no KYC requirements: We don't need to verify your identity to accept crypto
- Is completely open source: The code is publicly auditable
- Takes no fees: BTCPay Server doesn't charge transaction fees
- Protects your privacy: No payment processor sees your transaction details
We chose BTCPay Server specifically because it aligns with our privacy-first philosophy. It's the most trustless way to accept cryptocurrency.
Yes, we process refunds for Bitcoin payments just like card payments. If you're eligible for a refund, we can:
- Refund to your Bitcoin wallet: Provide a Bitcoin address and we'll send the refund in BTC
- Issue store credit: For use on future purchases
Please submit a support ticket with your order number for refund requests.
Yes! In addition to Bitcoin, PikaSim accepts:
- Monero (XMR): Direct payments via BTCPay Server for maximum privacy
- USDT on Tron: Stablecoin payments via BTCPay Server
- 50+ Altcoins: BNB, SOL, DOGE, USDT on other chains, and many more via Trocador. At checkout, select any supported coin and Trocador handles the conversion automatically
All crypto payments go through our self-hosted BTCPay Server for maximum privacy.
For maximum privacy, combine these steps:
- Pay with crypto: Bitcoin Lightning, Monero, or any altcoin via Trocador
- Use Tor or VPN: To mask your IP address when browsing (optional)
PikaSim never asks for email, name, or any personal information. Your eSIM details appear instantly on the purchase confirmation page. With crypto payment, there is no account, no KYC, no card company involvement, and minimal digital footprint.
Data Plans & Unlimited Daily
Unlimited Daily plans give you a set amount of high-speed data (e.g., 1GB or 3GB) that resets every 24 hours. You won't run out of data during your validity period.
How it works:
- You get your daily high-speed data allowance (e.g., 1GB/day or 3GB/day)
- After using your daily allowance, you stay connected with unlimited data at reduced speeds
- Your high-speed data resets every 24 hours
- This continues for the full validity period of your plan (e.g., 7 days, 30 days)
Example: A "1GB/Day 30 Days" plan gives you 1GB of high-speed data each day for 30 days. If you use more than 1GB on any given day, you'll still have unlimited data at slower speeds until midnight when your high-speed data resets.
After you've used your daily high-speed data allowance, your connection speed will be reduced, but you'll stay connected with unlimited data until your allowance resets the next day.
What you can still do at reduced speeds:
- Send and receive messages (WhatsApp, Telegram, iMessage)
- Check emails
- Use navigation and maps
- Browse text-based websites
- Make VoIP calls (may have reduced quality)
What may be difficult at reduced speeds:
- HD video streaming
- Large file downloads
- Video calls
This is called a Fair Usage Policy (FUP) and is standard across the industry. Most travelers find the daily allowance more than enough for typical use.
Your daily high-speed data allowance resets every 24 hours from when you first activated and connected to the network.
After the reset, your connection speed returns to normal and you have your full daily allowance again. This cycle continues for the entire validity period of your plan.
Here's a general guide for daily data usage:
- Light use (500MB-1GB/day): Email, messaging, maps, social media browsing
- Moderate use (1GB-2GB/day): Above + music streaming, photo sharing, occasional video
- Heavy use (3GB+/day): Video streaming, video calls, mobile hotspot use
For most travelers, 1GB/day is plenty for typical smartphone use including social media, maps, and messaging. If you plan to stream video or use your phone as a hotspot, consider a 3GB/day plan.
Remember: With Unlimited Daily plans, you won't be cut off even if you exceed your daily allowance - you'll just have slower speeds until the next day.
Choose Unlimited Daily if:
- You want predictable daily data without worrying about running out
- You're traveling for an extended period
- You prefer the security of always having some connectivity
- Your data usage varies day to day
Choose a fixed data plan if:
- You have very light data needs
- You want the lowest possible price
- You'll mostly use WiFi and just need occasional mobile data
Unlimited Daily plans are perfect for travelers who want peace of mind knowing they'll always stay connected, even if they have a data-heavy day.
Using Your eSIM
Activating your PikaSim eSIM is simple:
- Purchase a PikaSim eSIM package from our website or mobile app
- Your QR code and one-click activation link appear instantly on the confirmation page
- Tap the activation link (easiest method) or go to Settings > Cellular/Mobile > Add Cellular Plan and scan the QR code
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete activation
- Label your eSIM (e.g., "PikaSim Travel")
The eSIM will be active immediately once the QR code is scanned and setup is complete. Make sure you're connected to WiFi during the activation process.
The validity period depends on the package you purchase. Each package clearly states its duration (e.g., 7 days, 30 days) on the product page.
The validity period begins from the moment you first connect to a mobile network after activating the eSIM, not from the date of purchase. This means you can buy an eSIM in advance of your trip and it will only start counting down when you arrive and connect.
No. Once an eSIM has been installed and activated on a device, it is permanently bound to that device at the hardware level. It cannot be transferred, moved, or reinstalled on a different phone or tablet.
This is a limitation of the eSIM standard itself, not something PikaSim or any provider can override. Even if you delete the eSIM profile from the original device, the network still considers it linked to that device.
What this means:
- We cannot issue new QR codes, activation codes, or installation links for a different device
- The original QR code or activation link will not work on a new device
- If you still have access to the original device, you can continue using the eSIM there
- If you need connectivity on a different device, you will need to purchase a new eSIM
Tip: Always install your eSIM directly on the device you plan to use it on. Do not install it on one device with the intention of moving it later.
Yes, you must enable data roaming for your eSIM to work properly when traveling internationally. Here's how to do it:
- For iPhone: Go to Settings > Cellular > [Your eSIM] > Data Roaming and toggle it ON.
- For Android: Go to Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > [Your eSIM] > Data Roaming and toggle it ON.
While our eSIMs are pre-configured with the correct APN settings, data roaming must be manually enabled to connect to networks in your destination country.
This is a known restriction in MIUI and HyperOS (the software on Xiaomi and Redmi phones). The phone blocks APN editing for certain eSIM profiles, showing a message like "Access Point Name settings are not available for this user." Without the correct APN, your eSIM cannot route data even if it shows signal bars.
Try these fixes in order:
- Set the eSIM as your default data line first, then try the APN screen again. The APN editor is sometimes hidden when the eSIM is not the active data line.
- Reset network settings: Settings > Additional Settings > Backup and Reset > Reset Network Settings. This clears saved Wi-Fi passwords but often re-enables the APN editor.
- Enable Developer Options: Settings > About Phone > tap "MIUI Version" or "HyperOS Version" 7 times. Then go to Settings > Additional Settings > Developer Options and enable "Mobile Data Always Active." Try the APN screen again.
- Update your phone software: Settings > About Phone > check for updates. This is the fix that works when nothing else does. A software update refreshes the phone's carrier configuration and removes the APN restriction. After updating, restart your phone and re-enter your APN settings.
After the APN is set, make sure Data Roaming is ON and your eSIM is selected as the mobile data line. For detailed instructions, see our eSIM not connecting troubleshooting guide.
Yes. PikaSim eSIMs work on GrapheneOS on supported Pixel devices. Recent GrapheneOS releases enable eSIM support by default, so no special flags are needed. A few things are different from stock Android and are worth knowing before you install:
- APN must be entered manually. GrapheneOS often does not auto-populate the APN for travel eSIMs. The correct APN for your plan is shown on your purchase / invoice page (field labeled "APN"). Each plan has its own APN - do not reuse one from another eSIM or a guide.
- Where to enter it: Settings > Network and Internet > SIMs > tap the eSIM line > Access Point Names > tap + (or the three-dot menu > New APN). Set Name to anything (e.g. PikaSim), APN to the exact value from your invoice page, and leave all other fields blank. Save, then tap the radio button next to the new entry so it is selected.
- Data Roaming must be ON for the eSIM line specifically (not just your primary SIM).
- Mobile data line must be set to the PikaSim eSIM, not a physical SIM.
- Do not enable "Override carrier settings". It is a separate toggle and is not needed for eSIM to work.
- Prefer LTE over 5G. Some roaming eSIMs return "forbidden" errors on 5G networks. Set the preferred network type on the eSIM line to LTE / 4G only.
- Manual network selection helps. If auto-select fails, switch the eSIM line to manual and try 2 to 3 different local carriers, waiting 30 to 60 seconds on each.
- If the profile was removed from your phone, reinstall it from your invoice / purchase page. The profile and any remaining data are still valid.
